MyQueal Lewis: The Next…
I had the privilege of being selected for both the Filmmaker and Custom Product Creator Programs. Choosing between the two was a difficult decision, but in the end, I opted for the Filmmaker Program. I was overjoyed to dive into the intricacies of storytelling, and having one of my favorite companies not only endorse me creatively but also provide financial support was truly remarkable. The six-month collaboration with Beats by Dre was challenging, but the moment I presented my idea to the company and the world, I knew it was all worth it.
Chakel’s Way
I aim for my film to resonate with the creators of this world, especially the young visionaries who are preparing for a life of both beauty and constant struggle, fueled by a unique perspective that few others can see. I want to inspire these creators, reminding them that the world is theirs, regardless of life's challenges.
To bring this message to life, I crafted a character named Chakel who embodies the blend of determination and self-doubt that resides within us all when it comes to our creative pursuits. Through this short film, I unfold the journey of a young man who aspires to attend Mulberry University, a place where he can fully explore his creativity. However, a significant obstacle stands in his way – his father, Booker, a loving yet demanding figure, who struggles with the idea of another family member leaving.
Directors Cut
Chakel's Way marked my directorial debut, bringing with it a host of challenges that ultimately allowed me to grow and flourish. Thanks to Beats by Dre, I was equipped to step onto the set with confidence, fully embracing my role as a leader.
Being a director entails much more than simply giving orders. It's about taking charge, communicating effectively, and setting the tone for the entire production crew, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to and amplify your vision.
